What this one is for
Not the night you can’t fall asleep — the other one. You went down fine at eleven, and now it’s ten past three and you are entirely, unhelpfully awake. It might have been noise, or heat, or pain, or the bathroom. By the time you work out which, it doesn’t matter, because the worrying has already started.
“The cruellest thing about battling with sleep is that the harder we try, the less we’re able.”
Hazel Gale, from this session
That’s the whole argument, and it’s why this session doesn’t try to make you sleep. It gives your mind somewhere else to be for a while and lets your body do the part it already knows how to do. Most women don’t hear the end of it.
If this is your night every night, there’s more on why you keep waking at 3am — what the research says about it, and what else helps.
What happens when you play it
First eight seconds
Ocean, before anyone speaks
Nothing is asked of you. You hear the sea before you hear her.
The first two minutes
She names your night back to you
Not instructions. Recognition — lying awake, glaring at the backs of your eyelids, working out how tired tomorrow will be.
From two minutes on
You’re told to stop trying
Deliberately. You’re invited to think about anything at all, as long as it isn’t falling asleep — which is the point at which people tend to.
The first five minutes, in writing
Every word of the preview, with timings. We publish the preview, not the whole session — the page shows exactly what you can hear, and the rest of the session is the thing you’re buying.
It’s here because a voice is a personal thing and five minutes of listening isn’t always possible at your desk. Read it instead, and decide.

0:08Welcome to this sleep session, which is here to help you drift comfortably and easily back to sleep.
0:32Right now, it’s probably the middle of the night. You’ve been asleep for some time, but not enough time. And now you just want to get back as quickly as possible.
1:02We’ve all been there. There’s nothing more frustrating than trying and failing to drift off, and then dealing with the fallout of interrupted sleep.
1:28Whether it was stress that woke you, or noise, or pain, or just needing the bathroom — it sucks to lie awake, glaring at the backs of your eyelids and worrying about tomorrow.
1:52This session is here to help you avoid that. And it’s important that you do.
2:17Because the cruellest thing about battling with sleep is that the harder we try, the less we’re able.
2:41So as you listen to these words here, you can allow yourself to forget the urge to try to sleep. Let this session distract your mind — just enough,
3:01so that you don’t have to think about how you’re falling asleep. In fact, I’d like you to feel free to think about anything else as you listen. Let your mind wander.
3:28You can think anything that you like. Anything other than what it might feel like to drift off again — into that dozy world where your thoughts can wander and your body can rest.
3:53Because that can happen so much more easily, quickly, comfortably, when you just let your body do what it already knows how to do —
4:19exactly what you need it to do. And that means that you can trust that your body is winding down again,

About this session
The things women ask before they buy a card.
Yes. Every Unwind & Sleep Kit arrives with this session loaded, so you never need a card for it. Press the middle button on the band and it plays, with no phone at all.
That’s the intended outcome. The session runs its full seventeen minutes and fades out; nothing wakes you, and nothing needs turning off.
Play it again. There’s no limit, no counting, and nothing that expires.
It’s the same recording — it was called “Get back to sleep” there, with ocean underneath throughout.
